This week the Chancellor delivered what will be the final budget ahead of the General Election. There were several items in the budget which people in North Cornwall asked for, including a freeze on fuel duty and a £500 million extension of the Household Support Fund.
This week I welcomed the Government’s new plans to reform how holiday lets operate as ‘one of the biggest things ever to happen to housing in Cornwall’. I have long argued that there needs to be a rebalancing of the local housing market in constituencies like North Cornwall.
It was a pleasure to welcome DEFRA Minister, Robbie Moore MP, to the National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow last week. We heard about the science behind sustainable fishing, and the importance of this circular model which benefits local fishermen, restaurants, hoteliers, and more.
Last week it was great to see some familiar faces in Parliament. I hosted Patrick Langmaid and his son and my team took them on a tour of the House of Commons and ‘the other place’. Patrick is a big employer in North Cornwall and has contributed a great deal to our local economy.
It was a busy week in Westminster for me, and one of the highlights was the announcement of additional measures for local authorities worth £600 million.
