INVITATION
Conservative Policy Forum meeting to consider the “Post-Brexit Economy”
on Monday 22nd July, 7pm, Camelford Conservative Club.
Please do join us in Camelford on Monday 22nd July to discuss aspects of the “Post-Brexit Economy” – presuming of course that we ever get from pre- to post- ! We will be considering four main questions:
- How do we change the focus of debate from Brexit to other concerns that matter to the wider electorate?
- What should a fair Conservative tax offer look like? How should public services be fairly funded? Which services should be funded purely by local communities?
- Do you think the government should increase spending on public services, even if that means higher taxes or more borrowing? If you disagree, why?
- Given our Party’s commitment to delivering lower taxes for “ordinary, working people”:
- What specific taxes would you abolish or simplify?
- If you want increased spending on services, which taxes would you be prepared to see the government raise?
Should time permit there are a number of additional (optional) “bonus” questions to consider:
- What further policies should we pursue to boost investment in infrastructure, skills and industry?
- What investment in roads, rail, fibre and other infrastructure should we prioritise?
- What should we do to make the UK the best place to build a tech business?
- What should we do to maintain the UK’s leadership in Financial Services?
- What should we do to boost our exports and our attractiveness as a destination for Foreign Direct Investment?
You can download the discussion document https://www.conservativepolicyforum.com/sites/www.conservativepolicyforum.com/files/2019-05/CPF%20Brief%2019-3%20PostBrexitEconomy.pdf
Given the issues to be discussed should interest a wide range of people (from students to the retired; the self-employed, employees and employers; private sector and public sector), please do bring guests – they do not have to be Party Members, just broadly sympathetic to a centre/right-of-centre political philosophy. This is an opportunity to express opinions in a forum where voices and ideas will be heard at the highest levels.
Our new leader and Prime Minister is due to be announced that week, possibly the very next day, so our conversation may enjoy a particular edge!
With regards,
John Russell
